The highlight of my weekend, besides cooking recreationally, was running low on fish sauce. My husband, standing at the sink washing dishes, gave a little jump when I opened the refrigerator door, clutched the near-empty bottle to my breast with the salt crystals tinkling among the dregs, and squealed, "Oh, I get to buy a new bottle of fish sauce soon!"
Yesterday I stopped at Mekong Market on Rainier Ave. in Seattle and walked straight to the two shelves of fish sauces. I thought of getting Tiparos Brand in the squeezable plastic bottle, but I'm suspicious food in plastic these days. I looked at the other brands and finally decided on the clear golden liquor found in the Cock Brand bottle from Thailand with the schlocky photoshop image. $1.79!
