I am so proud of Mexico. They are not dithering about this swine flu pandemic. The website of the National Department of Health, Secretaría de Salud gives instructions on how to protect oneself from contracting the virus; they have the verbatim account of the press conference held by the Federal Secretary of Health, José Angel Córdova Villalobos, outlining the parameters of the epidemiological outbreak; and they have information on where to get help and what hospital can attend the sick. The Mexican Government has closed down all public gatherings, the Mexico City Metropolitan Cathedral was closed for Mass today. The Museum of Anthropology (below) was closed.
The National Symphonic Orchestra's website advises that performances have been cancelled. Schools, businesses, sporting events have been cancelled. The Mexican Army has been handing out masks. In short, they are attempting to bring this pandemic to a grinding halt with good old-fashioned common sense Public Health actions.
